Getting Christmassy at the Winter Lights

I love getting into the Christmas spirit! Partaking in my favourite Christmas traditions always gets me there. This includes mooching around local Christmas markets, making handmade Christmas cards and singing (well attempting to sing!) as many Christmas carols as possible.

I also adore seeing the Winter Lights at Anglesey Abbey. It’s a country house just outside Cambridge surrounded by almost 100 acres of landscaped gardens. Every year the National Trust put on a Winter Lights display where you walk along a mile and a half long route.  Here you get to see the most enchanting lights with bold colours lighting up the nature all around you.

The first thing you notice while there is how cold the December nights are! It’s f-f-f-freezing but when you take a glimpse of the stunning displays you soon forget that. Being a keen photographer I can’t tell you how many photos I took. The first time I went I couldn’t stop snapping away because I’ve never seen anything like it.

Here are some of the best photos I took:

I love this photo of the trees with the reflection. To me, it looks like a Christmas card! Maybe I should print this one off and make it my Christmas card this year.

The protections on the house were constantly changing and this was definitely a real highlight of the experience! I love how vibrant the colours are.

There is more to it than the lights…don’t forget the food vans! I’m such a foodie and I’m always excited to discover new food. There are a range of options including pulled pork and veggie burgers! At the end, you can also peruse the gift shop! It’s the kind of gift shop I love – lots of local produce, Christmas gifts and unique finds that are always hard to resist buying.

The cost of visiting the Winter Lights is £16.50 for adults, £11.15 for children and under 5s go free. It is a little pricey but I personally think it’s worth it for such a unique Christmassy experience.
