How To Get Motivated To Workout

Feeling motivated to workout is not something that comes naturally to a lot of people including me. Here are some tips that really helped me workout regularly and enjoy it!

Change into your workout wear

When I feel unmotivated to workout taking the simple step of changing into my workout wear can dramatically increase my motivation. It gets me in the right frame of mind and I automatically think time for the gym instead of oh no not the gym!

Plan when you’re going to workout

You’re more likely to workout if you plan when you’re going to do it. You need to choose the best time that fits into your everyday routine. Once you have your plan stick to it! When I first started working out I used to drag myself to the gym but I soon enjoyed going and having the routine reduced the chance of excuses creeping in.

Make goals

Making goals will help you to workout long term. If your goal is to lose a few pounds or to get a new personal best on the treadmill track your progress as you try to achieve it. Seeing yourself improve will help you stick with it.

Celebrate achievements

When you achieve your goals celebrate! I told myself that when I get a personal best on the treadmill I’m going to buy the new trainers I’ve wanted for ages! I tried so much harder to achieve it because I really wanted those trainers!

Listen to upbeat music

When I used to workout I would choose a really upbeat song and then my iTunes would be on shuffle so I’d be in the zone working out to an upbeat motivating track and then all of a sudden a depressing ballad would play! To prevent this from happening make playlists with really upbeat music and change it up regularly.

Find exercise that you like

When most people think about exercise they think of long hard workouts at the gym but there are so many more options available! I really want to start park fit classes where you exercise in the great outdoors! You could also try a sport, dance class or join a running club!

Workout with others

Whether it be a friend, personal trainer, a group exercise class, working out with others can keep you motivated and it makes it more fun!
